Hoi An is a great little place, so off to walk around the city and visited, the Chinese Gate near the river.
This bridge was built about 400 years ago and is a major part of the old town.

Took a boat along the Thu Bon river, past the suspended fishing nets, and river trawlers , then into a river village ,which was called Kim BongVillage,

and is well known for its wood carvings and boat building, this is where I got to try custard Apple, dragon eyefruit, and milk Apple, they all taste great.

Various fishing methods along the river.

old man in his basket boat

.  Had a fun time making Hoi An Pancakes, with chicken and shrimp in them, then filled with mint, lettuce and other greens, before rolling it in rice paper, damn tasty. This was our

organic cooking lesson, and this farm is government sponsored, teaching the locals how to grow organically, and be self sufficient. After lunch we headed back to town and I took off for the beach with Caroline, Karen, and Pat. Water was great, beach was great, had a good time.

Got to see various methods of fishing the river, and visited a vendor in the market that breeds and sells quail eggs, pretty eggs, but not much to eat in them
Dinner was on us tonight but the four of us decided to just walk across the street  to a local restaurant instead of going back into the town square like everyone else. We sat next to the river and had the best meal, and South African wine.. It's embarrassing really, these guys have two burners and a few pans, and they turn out the absolute tastiest and healthiesmeal I have ever had, I go home to a gourmet kitchen and I can barely make toast.

I think we in the USA have become so taste deprived due to the over processing of food, and lack of home cooking or fresh organic produce , that we are amazed but how good simple food can taste when we travel.
